Calabasas beats out Beverly Hills as one of richest cities in U.S.
CALABASAS, Calif. - Put on the map with the help of the 'Beverly Hillbillies,' 'Beverly Hills Cop,' the '90210' clan and Weezer, Beverly Hills has worn the crown for wealth in Southern California, until now. Bloomberg just named Calabasas one of the richest cities in the U.S, surpassing Beverly Hills.
It’s a place where the rich and famous can enjoy a more normal lifestyle. “We do have some ordinances about paparazzi that are very restrictive,” said Calabasas Mayor Pro Tem James Bozajian. “About half the city is also gated communities and that tends to be very popular with the celebrities.”
The median home price in Calabasas is $1.19 million, compared to $2.7 million in Beverly Hills. The most expensive listing in Calabasas is $32 million in Estate at the Oaks, a gated community located inside of another gated community.
Crime in Calabasas is also minimal and the school district is strong.
